17-4PH, AISI 630, 1.4542 and SUS630 Stainless Steel Bars
Short Answer for 17-4PH and 630 Stainless Bar Buyers
Junxiong Metal can review precipitation-hardening stainless steel bar enquiries using 17-4PH, AISI 630, UNS S17400, EN 1.4542 or SUS630 terms. A valid RFQ must state the governing standard, product form, dimensions, tolerance, supplied heat-treatment condition, required properties, surface, quantity, destination and MTC requirements.
17-4PH, AISI 630, UNS S17400, 1.4542 and SUS630 form a widely used international comparison cluster. The names alone do not define the same delivery condition or guaranteed properties. The order standard and specified solution or ageing condition control acceptance.

Image boundary: steel grade and precipitation-hardening condition cannot be verified from appearance. These images support product-form and packing discussions only and are not 17-4PH batch evidence.
Supply Scope and Evidence Boundary
Junxiong has confirmed commercial supply capability for this grade family. No particular H-condition, strength level, corrosion performance or stock position is promised until the buyer’s standard and heat-treatment condition are approved and order evidence is available.
Evidence boundary: a supply statement or quotation is not a shipment record, current-stock declaration, heat certificate or dimensional inspection report. Each order is confirmed against the approved specification, production route and order or batch documents.
Technical Facts Buyers Must Confirm
| Decision | Required RFQ information |
|---|---|
| Grade route | 17-4PH, AISI 630, UNS S17400, EN 1.4542, SUS630 or another buyer-approved standard and edition. |
| Heat-treatment condition | State solution-treated or the buyer-specified ageing condition, using the exact condition naming and requirements from the governing specification. |
| Property balance | State required mechanical properties, hardness, corrosion environment and any magnetic or dimensional-stability considerations. |
| Dimensions | Finished size, tolerance, straightness, surface condition, machining allowance and length tolerance. |
| Inspection | Heat identity, MTC type, chemistry, mechanical properties, hardness, corrosion or supplementary test requirements. |
| Commercial data | Quantity per size, repeat demand, packing, destination country, port and required delivery schedule. |
Shape and RFQ Selection
| Shape | Buyer must state | Factory review |
|---|---|---|
| Round bar | Diameter, tolerance, straightness, surface, length and bar-feeder or machining requirements. | Starting material, process route, tooling, inspection, MOQ and schedule are reviewed for the exact grade-size-condition combination. |
| Square bar | Side size, tolerance, corner radius, twist, straightness and length. | Starting material, process route, tooling, inspection, MOQ and schedule are reviewed for the exact grade-size-condition combination. |
| Flat bar | Width, thickness, edge condition, flatness, straightness and length. | Starting material, process route, tooling, inspection, MOQ and schedule are reviewed for the exact grade-size-condition combination. |
| Hexagonal bar | Across-flats size, tolerance, twist, straightness and length. | Starting material, process route, tooling, inspection, MOQ and schedule are reviewed for the exact grade-size-condition combination. |
| Custom profile | Dimensioned drawing, critical tolerances, corner radii, datum scheme, annual demand and trial quantity. | Starting material, process route, tooling, inspection, MOQ and schedule are reviewed for the exact grade-size-condition combination. |
Standards and Primary Reference Sources
- ASTM A564/A564M-25: the active ASTM specification for hot-rolled and cold-finished age-hardening stainless steel bars and shapes.
- BS EN 10088-3:2023: technical delivery conditions for stainless bars, rods, sections and bright products.
- JIS G 4318:2016: the active Japanese standard route for cold-finished stainless steel bars.
- worldstainless ISO 15510 grade comparison: Industry association reference aligning the 630/S17400, 1.4542 and SUS630 designation family.
- Stainless steel grades listed in ISO 15510: Direct comparison document; procurement still requires the buyer’s governing product standard and heat-treatment condition.
Reference boundary: publisher, association and mill pages support terminology and buyer verification. They are not Junxiong heat certificates and do not prove that every designation, product form or delivery condition is interchangeable.
Buyer Checklist Before Quotation

FAQ for 17-4PH and 630 Stainless Bar Buyers
Can Junxiong supply 17-4PH cold-finished round bar?
Junxiong can review the requirement after receiving the governing standard, diameter, tolerance, surface, supplied condition, required properties, quantity and destination.
Are 17-4PH, 630, 1.4542 and SUS630 exactly the same?
They are widely aligned for comparison, but the order standard, chemistry limits, delivery condition, tests and guaranteed properties must still be stated and checked.
Why must the H-condition or ageing condition be stated?
The grade name alone does not define the final mechanical-property balance. The exact supplied condition and acceptance criteria are essential to quotation and inspection.
Is 17-4PH a free-machining stainless grade?
No. It should not be marketed as a substitute for free-machining grades such as 303, 416 or 430F. Machining route and condition must be assessed separately.
Can an MTC show the heat-treatment condition?
The required certificate type, heat-treatment record and mechanical or hardness results should be agreed in the RFQ and order.
