Cold Drawn Steel Bar Size Range and RFQ Guide
Use this technical guide to select a cold drawn round, flat, square or hexagonal steel bar and prepare the information needed for a factory quotation. Junxiong Metal reviews each enquiry by grade, governing standard, section, size, tolerance, length, quantity, application, inspection and destination.
Short Answer
Junxiong’s published general cold drawn steel range covers round bars from 4 to 100 mm diameter, hexagonal bars from 6 to 75 mm across flats, square bars from 5 x 5 to 70 x 70 mm, and flat bars from 2 x 10 to 20 x 140 mm. A common published length route is 5 to 8 m, while fixed lengths are reviewed separately. These are indicative capability ranges, not a promise that every grade, size, tolerance and quantity combination is available.
Technical Facts: Indicative Cold Drawn Steel Bar Size Range
| Section | Published general range | Length route | Critical RFQ details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round bar | 4-100 mm diameter | Common published range 5-8 m; fixed length reviewed | Diameter, tolerance, straightness, surface, grade and quantity |
| Flat bar | 2 x 10 mm to 20 x 140 mm | Common published range 5-8 m; fixed length reviewed | Thickness, width, edge condition, straightness, grade and quantity |
| Square bar | 5 x 5 mm to 70 x 70 mm | Common published range 5-8 m; fixed length reviewed | Side size, corner radius, tolerance, straightness, grade and quantity |
| Hexagonal bar | 6-75 mm across flats | Common published range 5-8 m; fixed length reviewed | Across-flats size, corner condition, tolerance, grade and quantity |
Capability boundary: final feasibility depends on the requested material, governing standard, section ratio, dimensional tolerance, straightness, surface, length, quantity and inspection requirements. Send the complete RFQ before using this table for purchasing or design approval.
Choose the Correct Cold Drawn Bar Shape
- Cold drawn round steel bar: commonly reviewed for shafts, pins, fasteners, turned parts and Swiss-type machining.
- Cold drawn flat steel bar: specify thickness, width, edge condition, straightness and any cutting, punching or coating requirement.
- Cold drawn square steel bar: specify side size, corner radius, straightness, twist and the surfaces used for machining or assembly.
- Cold drawn hexagonal steel bar: specify the across-flats size, tolerance and intended turned, fastener or fitting application.
- Custom cold drawn steel profiles: submit a dimensioned cross-section drawing when standard round, flat, square or hexagonal bars do not match the finished component.
Grade and Standard Confirmation
A grade name alone is not enough for a production quotation. State the governing ASTM, SAE, EN/DIN, JIS, GB or customer specification and the required document type. Similar international grade names are useful for enquiry routing, but they are not automatic substitutes.
For example, 1215 and 12L14 free-machining steel bars are separate material routes. Searches involving 11SMn30, 11SMnPb30, 1.0715, 1.0718, SUM23, SUM22 or SUM24L still require confirmation against the ordered standard, chemical limits, mechanical requirements and mill test certificate.
Dimensional and Processing Details to Specify
- Finished diameter, side, thickness, width or across-flats dimension.
- Dimensional tolerance and the governing tolerance standard.
- Straightness, twist, corner radius and edge condition where applicable.
- Random or fixed length, end condition and cutting allowance.
- Bright or drawn surface, anti-rust protection and export packing.
- Cutting, punching, drilling, chamfering, galvanizing or other agreed secondary work.
- MTC, heat-number traceability, inspection report or third-party inspection.
No tolerance, straightness or processing value should be assumed from a product photo. Mark critical requirements on the drawing or purchase specification so they can be reviewed before quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes of cold drawn round steel bar can Junxiong review?
The published general round-bar range is 4-100 mm diameter. Availability must still be confirmed for the requested grade, tolerance, length, quantity and inspection documents.
What is the published cold drawn flat steel size range?
The general published flat-bar range is from 2 x 10 mm up to 20 x 140 mm. Width-to-thickness ratio, edge condition, straightness, grade and quantity affect feasibility.
Can Junxiong supply fixed-length cold drawn steel bars?
Fixed-length production can be reviewed separately. State the finished length, length tolerance, end condition, quantity and packing requirement in the RFQ.
Are equivalent international steel grades automatically interchangeable?
No. Similar grade names are not automatic substitutes. Final acceptance must follow the buyer’s governing standard, required properties, processing route and material certificate.
What information is needed for a custom cold drawn profile quotation?
Send a dimensioned cross-section drawing, material and standard, critical tolerances, corner radii, straightness, length, functional surfaces, quantity, application and inspection requirements.
Define Tolerance and Length Before Ordering
For step-by-step guidance on tolerance classes, straightness, twist, fixed length, end condition and inspection documents, read our cold drawn steel bar tolerance and cut-length RFQ guide.
Request a Size and Production Feasibility Review
Send the grade and standard, shape or drawing, size, tolerance, length, quantity, destination and required documents. A complete RFQ receives a more reliable feasibility and price review than a request containing only a material name.
Send the RFQ by WhatsApp, email the drawing, or use the contact page.
